Ann S. Hellie

Ann S. Hellie, 92, passed away on August 3, 2017, at her residence. She lived in Ann Arbor, Mich. for 53 years. She was born Ann Louise Shea in Williamsport, to Laverne H. and Ruth (Stewart) Shea on June 16, 1925.

She married Charles W. Hellie on July 2, 1946, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Williamsport. She graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1946. She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Many years she spent raising her four children. She was quoted as saying “My children have raised me. They have taught me far more than I have taught them.” Ann’s true love was writing. She became a member of the Detroit Women’s Writers Club. She published several children’s books, wrote many short stories, articles and book reviews. Later in life she created an online jewelry site named “Anne’s Gems”. She also loved animals, especially her pet cats Mouse and Shirley.

Ann was predeceased by her husband “Chuck” Charles W. Hellie on April 29, 2011. She is survived by her four children, Dr. C. Michael (Debra) Hellie of Chelsea, Mich., Stephen S. (Jan) Hellie of Adrian, Mo., Mary E. (Fred) Caryl of Brooklyn, Mich. and John S. (Linda) Hellie of Rangeley, Maine; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; six nieces and one nephew.

Cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
