Janice (“Jan”) was born February 18, 1927, in Gettysburg, PA, to Luther Irvin Sachs and Nora Hartzell Sachs. Jan was a triplet; she and her two brothers were the first set of triplets to be born in Adams County. Jan attended grade school and high school in Gettysburg before moving to Williamsport, PA to attend Dickinson Junior College (now known as Lycoming College). She completed her education in 1947, graduating with an associate’s degree in commerce and finance. Throughout her college career, she was an active member on campus, singing in two choirs, cheerleading, and working as a member of the yearbook staff. She was an active swimmer and enjoyed playing basketball. After graduating, Jan worked in New York City, in merchandizing, before settling in Williamsport. Jan married William Harrison Edwards on September 10, 1949.

Jan was Miss Adams County and the runner-up in the Miss Pennsylvania beauty pageant in 1947. She absolutely loved music and sang in the church choir. She was a competitive person and an avid golfer, once beating the reigning Pennsylvania State Champion in a match play tournament. She thoroughly enjoyed watching professional football and other sporting events. Jan had diverse interests, as well, teaching yoga and co-founding Decor Creations, in Williamsport, where she demonstrated her creative skills, making artificial arrangements and decorative wreaths. Jan always enjoyed her grandchildren’s achievements, attending many of their baseball, softball and soccer games. Above all, she was a loving wife and mother, sister, aunt, grandmother of eight and great-grandmother of three.

Jan was a sweet, humble, sincere, positive and respectful person, who lived life with grace and great joy. She made many friends throughout her life and deeply loved her husband and family.
