Marian H. Metzger

Marian H. Metzger, 97, formerly of Hughesville, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at AristaCare at Loyalsock.

Born August 21, 1920, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Laura (Weaver) Houseknecht. Her husband of 28 years, John C. Metzger, preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1975.

Marian was a graduate of Hughesville High School, Class of 1939, and served as class treasurer. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hughesville, and served on the Board of Elections for many years. Marian was an avid knitter and enjoyed knitting caps for newborns and donating them to the local hospitals. Marian and her husband John also operated her family’s dairy business (Houseknecht’s Dairy) in the Hughesville area for 28 years.

In September of 2006, Marian was honored by Lycoming County, and received proclamations from both the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Pennsylvania Senate for voting in 50 consecutive elections.

Surviving are a sister, Janet Nicoll, of Montoursville; two nieces, Jane Bubb and Sally LaRue, both of Williamsport; and two nephews, R. Edward Alberts, of Williamsport and Steve Alberts, of Montoursville.

A private graveside funeral service will be held in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, at the convenience of the family.
