Roy D. Landon
Roy D. Landon, life-long resident of Canton, Union Township, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at the Gatehouse in Williamsport. He had celebrated his one-hundredth birthday on August 5 of this year.
Born August 5, 1917, at the family home in North Union, Tioga County, Roy Daniel was one of four children of the late Benjamin and Gertrude (Randall) Landon.
He was a graduate of Canton High School, class of 1935. He and his father first operated a dairy farm but eventually established Landon Orchards where they grew apples, cherries, peaches and prune-plums.
On June 28, 1942, Roy married the former Lorene Williams in the North Union Church. They raised three children and were blessed with 58 years of marriage before her passing on March 2, 2001.
Roy served on the Canton School Board for many years, was a member of Canton’s Masonic Lodge No. 415, North Union Grange No. 784 and the Wheel Inn in Roaring Branch. He served as a deacon and elder at the North Union Church of Christ and later attended the Canton Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) where he was a member of the choir.
Surviving are his children, Kathryn Landon Preston (Lamar Haflett), of Summerfield, Fla., Betty Landon (Vyn) Redden, of Harrisburg and Allyn (Betty) Landon, of Canton; five grandchildren, Jill, David, Anne, Ben and Elizabeth; seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Cassidy, Alexis, Adam, Owen, Vinnie and Victoria; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends and neighbors.
In addition to his wife, Lorene, Mr. Landon was predeceased by three sisters, Mae Fitch, Myrtle VanDyke and Charlotte Shoemaker; and his son-in-law, Gordon Preston.
Family invites friends to call 6-8 Friday evening at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive, Canton. Rev. Nancy Beahm will officiate the funeral service Saturday, November 18, at 11 a.m. at the Canton Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, with Rev. Dr. Philip Wanck assisting. Burial will follow in North Union Cemetery.
