Elmer E. Polk
Elmer E. Polk, 78, of Muncy Exchange Road, Muncy, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at his home.
Born Dec. 14, 1938, in Strawberry Ridge, he was the son of the late Larue and Mary (Hack) Polk. On Dec. 8, 1974, he married Fay L. Taggart at the Hughesville Friends Church and they have celebrated 42 years of marriage.
Elmer was a 1957 graduate from North-Mont High School, Turbotville, and enlisted in the U.S. Army Jan. 25, 1957, and was honorably discharged March 4, 1958. Following his discharge he worked at the Diggan’s Farm Store in Hughesville a few years. He was a self-employed farm machinery mechanic for over 40 years.
Elmer was a member of the former Turbotville Volunteer Fire Co., in his earlier years, but currently was an active life member of the Muncy Area (formerly Clarkstown) Volunteer Fire Co. for over 40 years where he served as a fire policeman. He was a former captain and past president of the Fire Police, the Lycoming County Fire Police Association and also the Six Co. Fire Police.
After retiring he enjoyed tinkering in his shop until this past spring when he became ill. Elmer was an avid NASCAR fan up to the last race this season.
He enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family.
Surviving besides his wife are two stepdaughters, Joyce Snyder and Pete, of New Jersey and Linda Hendershot and her husband Audie, of Muncy; five stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to call from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Svc, PC, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville, where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Marjorie Fisk of the Church of the Nazarene, Muncy. Burial will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park where full military and fire police honors will be accorded by combined organizations.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to Muncy Area Volunteer Fire Company, 35 S. Main St., Muncy, PA, 17756.
