Myra E. Derrick

Myra E. “Gram” Derrick, 94, a resident of Unityville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, in the Muncy Valley Hospital. Born June 5, 1923, in Penn Township, Lycoming County, she was a daughter of the late Jasper and Lena Weaver Holmes.

Myra was preceded in death by her husband, Chester L. Derrick, on Feb. 11, 1999.

During World War II, Myra was employed by the International Furniture Co. at Montoursville. When the person who had held Myra’s position before her returned from the war she quit so that person could have his old job back. She felt it was the least she could do for someone who had served his country. She then started her babysitting career which spanned multiple generations.

She attended Moreland Community Church. Myra was a charter member of the Lairdsville Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and the Muncy Valley Moose. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Myra always had a positive outlook on life. Children were a very important part of her life.

She is survived by two children, Albert Lee Derrick and his wife Linda, of Muncy, Tena Y. and her husband Adam Peck, of Muncy; four siblings, Oliver Wendell and Patty Holmes, of Hughesville, Herbert Carl and Shirley Holmes, of Hughesville; Norma Whitmoyer of Muncy; Mildred and Dean Schreffler of Muncy; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Myra was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Nancy Eileen Derrick; her son, Dale Lynn Derrick Sr.; her grandson, David Wesley Derrick; four sisters, Anna Blanche Frantz, Nellie Budman, Jane Bower, Grace Swisher; and two brothers, Warren Holmes and Chester Bruce Holmes.

In keeping with her wishes, graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Hughesville with Reverend Thomas Holmes, her nephew, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the North Central Sight Services, 2121 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701 or the Alzheimers Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
