Wayne L. Summers, 81, of Hughesville, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at The Gatehouse.

Born July 3, 1936, in Unityville, he was a son of the late John and Martha (Puderbaugh) Summers. His wife of 40 years, the former Norma Jean English, preceded him in death June 24, 2002.

Wayne served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. After returning home, he was employed at several local companies, including the former West Company, Montgomery. He also owned and operated Summers Place Sub Shop, Williamsport. In his free time, Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia J. Feigles, of Montgomery, and Nancy L. (Robert) McCabe, of Moneta, Va.; three sons, David W. (Barbara) Summers, of Jersey Shore, Daniel C. Myers, of Savanah, Ga., and James A. (Juliana) Myers, of Cameron, N.C.; three brothers, Herman (Dianne) Summers, of Montgomery, Lewis Summers, of Hughesville, and Luther Summers, of Unityville; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his fiance, Genevieve E. Leech; two sisters, Francis Swisher and Sarah Metzger; and a brother, Ronald Summers.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Mr. James A. Myers, his son, officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery, Unityville, with graveside military honors accorded by combined veterans organizations. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
