Mary Mayer Wurster Whitenight

Mary Whitenight went to be with the Lord in the arms of her daughter at Valley View Rehab and Nursing Home in Montoursville, Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018.

Born June 13, 1930, in Williamsport, Mary was a daughter of Walter D. and Jennie Young Mayer. When her mother died ten days later, Mary was taken in to be reared by her uncle and aunt, Herbert and Emma Mayer of Williamsport.

Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon F. Whitenight; son, Howard H. Wurster; daughter, Karen Morlock; sister, Lena Mae Mayer; and brother, G. Earl Mayer.

She retired from GTE Sylvania (Montoursville) after 25 years of service and belonged to the Quarter Century Club. She was a graduate of Williamsport High School class of 1949 and served on the reunion board of the “49er’s”.

She was a member of Greenview Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and had been a deaconess for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer E. Welliver (Jeff); grandchildren, Lesley Brennan, Leigh Morlock, Renee Yarborough and Ellen Baysore; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter (Dick) Mayer, of Illinois and Dr. Louis Mayer, of Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Timothy K. Hartzell officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery. A viewing for family and friends will be held Wednesday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
