Robert E. Rhinehart

RHINEHART

Robert E. Rhinehart, 86, of Derr Hill, Avis, passed away early Tuesday morning, Jan. 2, 2018, at his residence. Bob was born in Jersey Shore on Dec. 13, 1931, a son of Edward and Emma (Hoffman) Rhinehart.

He attended Woolrich and Jersey Shore Schools and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Smith Brigade. He entered the Army, Jan. 5, 1949, and was discharged June 5, 1952.

Bob was employed at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven from June 23, 1952 until August of 1984. He enjoyed working with his hands doing carpentry and electrical work until July of 1987 when he began employment with Grummans until retirement in 1992.

Bob enjoyed working on tractors, which he collected, and was a member of the Avis United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Avis American Legion Post 284.

Bob was married first to the former Anne Aikey and had two children: son, David E. Rhinehart (Gabriele), of Beech Creek and daughter, Susan Scheasley who passed away July 5, 1985. He then remarried Shelby Lapp who passed away Feb. 23, 2009, and had two stepchildren, Gary Lapp and Susan Kirkman.

He is survived by two grandchildren, Timothy Rhinehart and Richard Thompson; four step grandchildren, Matthew and Lindsay Lapp and Brooke and Serena Kirkman. Bob is furthered survived by siblings, Russell, of Gravel Hill, Earl, of Loganton and Colleen Shields, of Pine Creek; many great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Lori Trinkle.

A tribute to Bob’s life will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Avis United Methodist Church, 215 Prospect Ave., Avis, with his pastor Rev. Joseph Hopkins, officiating. Family and friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Woolrich
