Alford R. Sheppard

VETERAN

Alford R. “Red” Sheppard, 84, a resident of Pennsdale, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, in the Williamsport Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 25, 1933, at Millfield, Athens County, Ohio he was a son of the late Alford and Bertha (Giffin) Sheppard. Red was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie M. (Potter) Sheppard on Nov. 29, 2016.

He honorably served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Red was retired from Fry’s Plastic where he was employed as a truck driver/mechanic. He had previously been employed by Warshaw’s at Milton and Sprout-Waldrons at Muncy.

Red enjoyed woodworking and farming.

He is survived by four children: Louise Travelpiece of Danville, Jim Potter, of Union Springs, N.Y., Russell N. and wife Linda Hetrick Jr., of Turbotville, Pa., and Sandra and husband John Fry, of Pennsdale; and one sister, Lillian Sheppard, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Red is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by three siblings, Ray Sheppard, Laura Hathaway and Samuel Sheppard.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 12, 2018, at 12:30 p.m. from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy, with Max L. Walters Jr., pastor of the Lairdsville Faith Church, officiating. Friends may call on Monday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Twin Hills Memorial Park.

The family will provide the flowers.
