Allethea Elaine Bruce

Allethea Elaine Bruce, 69, of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018, after complications from a stroke, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

She was born in Ashland, to Betty and Jack Miller, and graduated from Shikellamy High School in 1966 and the Florida Institute of Technology in 1968. She enjoyed a successful career at Weis Markets, rising from the typing pool, to executive secretary, to Buyer and Trainer, before she explored her love of travel by running West Branch Travel Agency in Williamsport, where she was also a member of the Chamber of Commerce. She sold her agency in order to care for her ailing parents and devoted herself thereafter to the betterment of her local community. She volunteered extensively at Riverwoods Senior Living Community, as well as for the Lewisburg Cemetery Committee. At home, she tended her garden with great care and was an ardent devotee of tennis. Her family remembers her as having a gifted rapport with animals — horses, dogs, stray cats, visiting hummingbirds — and children. She will be sorely missed by those who survive her: her loving husband of more than 31 years, Walter Bruce; her daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Mark McGee, together with her granddaughters Kali and Shelby Ridley, all of Tyler, Texas; her stepson Jeffrey Bruce, wife Ingrid Steffensen, and granddaughter Emma Bruce, of New York City; and her stepdaughter Kim Farrington, husband Eric Farrington, and grandson Eric Greene, of Denver, Colo.

A memorial service will be held in Lewisburg on Saturday, March 24, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to her favorite local causes: the Evangelical Community Hospital or the Lewisburg Downtown Partnership.
