Mary Jean Woodside

Mary Jean Woodside, 85, of Unityville, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018, at her home.

Born June 18, 1932, in Town Hill, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Freas M. and Helen M. (Betterly) Rhone. She married Charles Emmanuel Woodside, and together they would have celebrated 67 years of marriage on March 24.

Mary was employed at various sewing factories, including John’s Sewing Factory and Milco Sewing Factory of Benton. She was employed by BiLo, and more recently Sam’s Club, since its opening in 1996. She was well known for her glamorous purple attire, especially her festive hats. Mary was well loved by her coworkers and customers alike. Mary enjoyed her work and retired at the age of 83.

Mary was a home canner, baker, cook, and was devoted to her family. She especially cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Cindy (Stephen) Campbell, of Pennsdale; a brother, Robert (Juanita) Rhone, of Benton; three grandchildren, Ashley (Matt) Miller, of Hughesville, Brooke (Troy) Hansen, of Picture Rocks, and Halley Campbell, of Roslyn, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren, Sullivan and Josephine Miller and Reed and Brynn Hansen; a special niece, Patsy Charles, of Hughesville; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Henry Rhone; and two sisters, Betty Hayman and Blanche Woodside.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 23 at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, with Rev. Jane L. O’Borski officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery, Unityville. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
