James R. Fortney
James R. Fortney, 88, of Williamsport, died peacefully, Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the Williamsport Home.
Born Dec. 24, 1929, in Williamsport, he was a son of Edison J. and Helen Mae (Shook) Fortney. He married Normalie J. Hughes on Sept. 11, 1954.
Jim was a 1947 graduate of Williamsport High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Jim was a member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee. He was an honorary life member of Salt Run Hunting Club. He loved being outdoors; hunting, fishing, gardening, and planting and nurturing trees.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son Marc S. Fortney and his wife Laura, of Jersey Shore; and two granddaughters, Rebecca and Jennifer Fortney.
A funeral service to honor the life of Jim will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. Burial will be held in State Road Cemetery, Cogan Station. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Sanders Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be made to St. John’s-Newberry UMC, 2101 Newberry St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
