Emerson W. Knyrim

Emerson W. Knyrim, 87, of Montoursville, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018, at UPMC Susquehanna Hospital, Williamsport.

Emerson was born in Hazleton on Dec. 11, 1930, a son of the late Christian and Hilda E. (Ehmer) Knyrim.

He graduated from Hazleton High School and Penn State University. He served in the U.S. Army Cavalry as First Lieutenant in Korea from 1954 to 1956, and in the National Guard from 1956 to 1959. He married Elizabeth A. “Sis” Rogers, of Hughesville in 1958, and were both of the Lutheran faith.

Emerson was a banker his entire life and was the president of the former Bank of Central Pennsylvania. He taught summer classes on banking at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, during his career. He was a member of the American Legion Post 35, Hughesville. His great love was his family and dogs. He also enjoyed tennis, western movies, reading and military history.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 59 years, are two sons, Christian Mark Knyrim and his wife, Anne, of Lavallette, N.J., and Harry Scott Knyrim, of Williamsport; a granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Knyrim Reigle and husband Bjorn C. Reigle, of Charlotte, N.C.

In addition to his parents, Emerson was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick C. Knyrim, who was killed in action at Normandy during World War II; and four sisters, Audrey Mattern, Evelyn Kegel, Grace Foti and Hilda Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

At Emerson’s request, there will be no visitation or public service, and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Beckoning Cat Project, 1417 East Third St., Williamsport, PA, 17701, or your local non-profit no kill animal shelter, as Emerson was an avid animal lover.
