Carl E. Jarrett

Carl E. Jarrett, 97, of Montgomery, died peacefully at home on July 14, 2018. He was born in Montgomery, PA.

Carl graduated from Montgomery Area High School in 1939. He served in the Army Air Corps (now the Air Force) from 1942 – 1946. It is during his service to his country that he met and married the love of his life, Lucille Birgen from South Dakota. They were married 66 years. After World War II, Carl returned to White Deer Valley where he enjoyed a successful career as a dairy farmer. During the later years of his farming career, he expanded his interests into land development and was instrumental in the expansion of Maple Hill and White Deer Meadows Development. He had a love of putting together “the perfect deal.”

Throughout his life, Carl believed in service to his country and to the community. He served on the following; Supervisor for Brady Township, Muncy Valley Hospital Board of Directors and the Lycoming County Board of View. In partnership with the First Community Foundation of PA, he and his wife, Lucille, established the Carl and Lucille Scholarship Fund which awards five $1000 scholarships to Montgomery Area High School seniors each year.

Some of Carl’s happiest times were spent at the family cabin in Elimsport. It was there that he entertained family and friends and was known as master chef of his famous “pancake breakfast.” Along with entertaining, he enjoyed time in the woods, watching wildlife and hunting.

Although he never touched a golf club until he was 60 years old, it was the “perfect match” for him as it combined fellowship with friends and a competitive challenge. At 93 he had his second hole in one and at 95 was the winner of the Albright Golf Challenge Tournament. He enjoyed his golf with the retirees League at White Deer Golf Course.

Carl’s pride of his children and grandchildren was evident in all facets of his life. He thrived on time mentoring them; as they learned to play golf, invest in the stock market, maneuver the financial world, play cards, enjoy Arizona and watching them grow into adults.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran “Brick” Church, Montgomery, a 60 year member of the Muncy Lodge #299, F &AM, Williamsport Consistory, Irem Temple Shrine, VFW Post #743, Montgomery and the Bower-Decker Post 251 American Legion, Montgomery.

He is survived by his children, Michael and Nancy Jarrett, Joan E. Jarrett and Tony Mastriania and Roger D. and Denise Jarret; six grandchildren, Kate and Travis Fogler, Melanie and Richie Burk, Nathan and Jeri Beth Jarrett, Jocelyn and Drew Mounsey, Monica and Chris Ritchie and Ross Jarrett; and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife he was predeceased by two brothers, Emery and Donald Jarrett.

Friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, at St. John’s Lutheran “Brick” Church, 196 Brick Church Rd., Montgomery, where a Masonic service will be held at 11:30 a.m. A Celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Theodore Cockley, officiating.

Burial with full military honors will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
