Jane E. Wetherbee

Sept. 8, 1929 – Aug. 27, 2018

Jane E. Wetherbee, 88, independent and feisty to the end, Jane remained at home on her own terms.

Jane graduated Wellsboro High School in 1947, then graduated from Edinboro College. She taught art to children K-7th grade and began her career in Wellsboro. Later she taught in 15 one-room school houses in Troy area. From there she moved on to Liberty and finally Blossburg until she retired in 1986.

Her great loves were history, art, genealogy, cards, games, reading, exploring, traveling, friends, family and socializing. Nothing could get her juices flowing better than a little mischief, a well told story, or a long car ride on a dirt road with no known destination.

She is survived by her son, Dana Wetherbee, of Wellsboro; daughters, Mary Wetherbee, of Oregon, Rosalind Statts, of Wellsboro, Michele Wetherbee, of California and Kate (Dave Greb) Wetherbee, of Morris; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by siblings: Catherine Kay Whartenby, Donald English, Edward English, James (Mitzi) English and Elizabeth (EA) English.

A gathering to celebrate Jane’s life will be held at the Stony Fork Baptist Church, 2831 Stony Fork Road, Wellsboro, in the village of Stony Fork, this Saturday, Sept. 1. The visitation will take place from 10-11 a.m. Service at 11 a.m., followed by a lunch for all.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jane Wetherbee Scholarship Fund, which in granted to a Wellsboro High School senior. Mailed to: The Wellsboro Art Club, C/o Susan Richar, 38 Water St., Wellsboro, PA 16901.
