Robert A. Brouse

Robert Ammon Brouse, LCDR/SS/USN (Ret.), 76, of Moyock, N.C., and formerly of Bloomsburg, Pa., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, a patient of the Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk VA.

Robert was born on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1941, in Montgomery, Pa., a son of the late Percy Ammon and Ruth Ethel (Wertman) Brouse. Throughout his younger years, Robert attended the Montgomery area schools and later graduated from the Montgomery High School in 1959. He also expanded his education by attending Naval Nuclear Power School.

Following graduation from high school, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he faithfully served his country for over 21 years. His military assignments are as follows: USS Bushnell (AS-15), September 1959 — July 1960; Naval Submarine School, July 1960 — September 1960; USS Spikefish (SS-404), September 1960 — January 1963; Naval Engineman School, January 1963 — May 1963; Naval Nuclear Power School, June 1963 — December 1963; Naval Propulsion Training Unit, December 1963 — October 1966; USS Will Rogers (SSBN-659), October 1966 — August 1968; Naval Shipyard, Charleston, S.C., August 1968; USS Seawolf (SSN-757), June 1970 — August 1973; Submarine Group Five, August 1973 — August 1976; USS Dixon (SA-37), August 1976 — August 1979; Training Officer, Naval Submarine School, August 1979 — October 1980; retired 1980.

On Dec. 1, 1962, Robert married his loving wife, Mary Adamaitis Brouse.

For over 15 years, Robert was employed by Pennsylvania Power & Light as a manager until his retirement from there in 1996.

Robert was a member of the Muncy Masonic Lodge F&AM; Submarine Veterans Association, Williamsport, Pa.; Columbia County Covered Bridge Association; Valley of Bloomsburg American Legion Post No. 273.

In addition to his parents, Robert also was preceded by two brothers, Charles W. Brouse and Marlin E. Brouse.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Mary Brouse; three children, Dale A. Brouse and wife, Ann (Jones), of North Carolina; Yvette M. Varnadore and husband, David, of Florida, and Dwayne A. Brouse and wife, Meredith, of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three sisters, Karen E. Polombo, Judy A. Bower and Vicki L. Deptula, all of Pennsylvania.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 745 Market at Eighth Streets, Bloomsburg.

Military honors will be presented by a combined V.F.W. and American groups.
