Gary A. Stover

Gary A. Stover, 67, of Jersey Shore passed away Thursday, Dec. 6 at UPMC Susquehanna in Williamsport. He was born in Bellefonte on July 15, 1951, to David W. Stover Sr. and Mary (Dobbins) Stover.

Gary had a 38-year career at Jersey Shore Steel. He worked in many positions there, but he was primarily a roll turner. For the past three years, Gary worked as a security guard at First Quality Tissue, which he enjoyed greatly.

On June 2, 1973, he married Donna Rogers and they enjoyed 45 wonderful years of marriage. He enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee and visiting with loved ones. He would always make time to talk with or help those who needed him, any time of the day. He was known as a “Dad” to everyone. Gary enjoyed hunting, especially with his grandkids, fishing, camping, going to the Grange Fair every August, football (the Steelers and Penn State mostly), NASCAR and baseball. When Gary was younger, he played softball for Susquehanna Transits with many coworkers and friends.

He was a member of the “High Street Gang” who played football and capture the flag until his mom would call him home for supper. Gary would put up a tent in his parents’ back yard and “the Gang” would sleep out all summer long. He loved his family and was deeply loved in return by all of them.

Gary is survived by his wife Donna, of Jersey Shore, two daughters, Kristi Stover-Reich (Kevin Sr.), of Jersey Shore, and Shannan Stover (Rick Pepperman), of Linden; three grandchildren, Kevin Reich Jr. (Shyann Brungard), of Jersey Shore, Zachary Stover (AJ Stephens), of Linden, and Paul Joe Stover, of Linden; four brothers, Niles Stover, Ken Stover, Scott Stover, and David Stover Jr.; one sister, Pam Smith; his mother-in-law, Joanne Rogers; four sisters-in-law, June Vogt, Terry Huntington, Karen Welshans, and Trudy LaFond; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Rogers; and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and David; a brother, Ronald Stover; a father-in-law, Luther Rogers Sr.; and a brother-in-law, John LaFond.

Honoring Gary’s wishes there will not be any services, but there will be a gathering at a later date for family and friends in his memory.
