Holiday open-air market Friday
The city recreation department is hosting its inaugural open air holiday market from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday in the rear courtyard of the Peter Herdic Transportation Museum at Nichols Place.
The event will be in conjunction with the Trolley Tour of Lights and called Santa’s Festive Friday, according to Jessie Novinger, department director.
Artisan vendors are expected to be on hand with holiday gifts, face painting, carolers, strolling dance performances, characters in storybooks and Santa, Noving er said.
The market will be open to all including those who are not riding the trolley, she said.
“We’re hopeful the first-ever holiday market is a good replacement for the Billtown Christmas Parade,” Mayor Gabriel J. Campana said.
The parade was scuttled for a lack of funds, he said.
Santa visits also are scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14 and 21 at the Santa House, located near the Williamsport Green at West Fourth and Hepburn streets, he said.
