David Eugene Scott

David Eugene Scott, 62, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was born February 1, 1957, in Williamsport, the son of Woodrow “Woody” and Mary Ellen “Mickey” Freeth Scott. He married Tina Brohard Braden on Feb. 14, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.

David was a member of the American Softball Association, and was inducted into both the Illinois and National Hall of Fame. He was a pitcher in the men’s major fast pitch league and a member of the ADM softball team, which later became the Decatur Pride. In addition, he was named the U.S. Olympic Sportsman of the Year for 1982.

David was a superfan of Murray State softball, as well as the Maroa Forsyth Trojans. He loved cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Penn State Nittany Lions. David was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Adam (Morgan) Scott, of Hainesville, Ill.; a daughter, Selina (Nick) Finck, of Maroa; three grandchildren, Brenna and Braylee Finck; and Rowan Scott; a brother, Craig “PJ” Scott, of Williamsport; and a brother-in-law, Jack Mahoney, of Blackwood, NJ.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Pam Mahoney.
