Hugh Emerson Christie

Hugh Emerson Christie, 75, a resident of Montgomery, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. He was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on June 8, 1944, the son of Harold E. Christie and Harriet C. Feigenbaum Christie. He was one of four siblings, Harry E. Christie, Helene E. (Christie) Swenson, and Howard E. Christie. He was a graduate of the International School of Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1962, and Lycoming College in 1966, where he received his bachelor’s degree in political science. He was retired from Montgomery Area School District (MASD). He taught gifted, Spanish, world cultures and was an assistant football and wrestling coach, and the coordinator/coach for Odyssey of the Mind. During his lifetime in Montgomery, he was a volunteer fireman, a member of the Lions Club, a borough councilman, and the acting mayor of Montgomery.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judith F. (Hiscar) Christie; his two sons, LTC U.S. Army (R) Howard R. Christie, and Douglas E. Christie; Howard’s wife, Valerie S. (Chaya) Christie; three grandchildren, Brent G. Christie, Nicolette (Nikki) A. (Christie) Rose, and Alexandria (Lexi) R. Christie; and six great-grandchildren.

The viewing will be at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., at Crouse Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport, on Friday, June 28. The public is welcome. Interment will be at Saint Boniface Cemetery in Williamsport.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in the name of Hugh E. Christie to the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Department, the Montgomery Historical Society, or the Montgomery Odyssey of the Mind Program at MASD.
