Liberty House: A decade of helping women rebuild lives
For a decade, Liberty House has been a shelter from the storm.
A partnership of the local YWCA and the Lycoming County United Way, Liberty House was born a decade ago to help women in the area who, quite frankly, are in a desperate way.
Maybe it’s a financial problem. Maybe it’s drug addiction. Maybe it’s illness without proper support from others. Maybe it’s abuse of some kind. Maybe they just have nowhere to go.
Liberty House has been that port in a storm, providing a home for more than 500 women and more than 250 children over the past decade.
When the decade was celebrated at a recent event, there were tears and smiles and a recounting of stories of women putting their lives back together.
The program has been successful to the point that it operates now with a waiting list of women seeking the services.
That says the program’s validation. It also, sadly, shows the growing need.
We wish continued success for the Liberty House program and hope it continues helping women in need reconstruct their lives.
