Raise the Region offers unprecedented opportunity to give

If you want to give money to a local charity, the First Community Foundation Partnership is attempting to make it easier than ever next week.

Raise the Region is a 24-hour fundraising project that will allow residents to donate to any of more than 150 nonprofit organizations.

The give-a-thon starts at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday and continues until 11:59 p.m. that day.

During that time frame, residents may simply go to and donate a minimum of $25 by credit or debit card. It’s that easy.

A local business has donated $125,000 to match portions of the donations and monetary prizes are being given to organizations from another business.

The partnership covers six counties – Lycoming, Colunbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union. Of the 150 nonprofit organizations, 83 of the participants serve Lycoming County. The Lycoming County list was published in Thursday’s Sun-Gazette and the full list may be viewed on the website.

This is the Internet version of a telethon, customized to perhaps appeal to a younger population. Organizers hope to reach new donors to the organizations through the easy accessibility.

We would urge local residents to view the Lycoming County list from Thursday’s Sun-Gazette and the full list on the website. Just about every cause and need in the region is touched by the organizations on the list.

This is an unprecedented opportunity to support non-profit organizations that work so hard 365 days a year for the betterment of the region’s residents. It deserves whatever support you can offer.
