Changing face of downtown merits a study of traffic

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that traffic in downtown Williamsport has picked up considerably in recent years.

The gas drilling boom has created more hauling traffic and a sharp increase in hotels, motels and restaurants to serve the people working in this industry.

Call it good traffic. But it all amounts to more cars and other vehicles.

A traffic study is being eyed by the city Economic Revitalization Committee to determine whether traffic patterns, signal timing and other aspects of downtown traffic control are in sync with the everyday realities of traffic in center city Williamsport.

It’s needed.
