Military cuts unmask scary, wrong approach
The defense department cuts announced Monday by Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel represent faulty choices that jeopardize the department’s ability to safeguard the nation.
Hagel announced cuts in troop size below pre-World War II levels and retiring of the Air Force A-10 “Warthog” tank-killer, a valuable weapon in these times.
This strategy, we suspect, has been a goal since President Obama took office. From day one, the president’s approach has been that America is no longer going to be leading the world through defense strategies. He seems convinced we can talk our adversaries into just getting along.
There is plenty of waste to be cut in the defense department instead of gutting the purpose of that wing of government to defend the nation and those with similar standards and/or want for freedom.
Meanwhile, entitlement spending rises to record levels, to the point where record numbers of people aren’t even trying to get employment. It doesn’t seem like our tax dollars are being given the correct priorities
