School board correctly rejects stadium/track facility bids

The Williamsport Area School Board recently voted unanimously to reject bids for improvements to Williamsport Area High School football stadium/track facility.

We should hope so.

The bids exceeded the project’s estimated cost by $1 million.

As much as the improvements may be needed, the district is in no position to enter into projects that come in $1 million over estimates. It is in the business of education and, one way or another, bids that far beyond projected costs eventually impact the dollars available for education.

The correct call is to take a second look at the project’s specifics and then rebid it with some changes geared to a lower price tag.
