Half the VA gets bonuses despite questionable job

About half the more than 300,000 people who work at the Department of Veterans Affairs received performance-based pay bonuses in 2014, according to a recent investigation.

Yes, the VA. The same agency still under fire for how some veterans seeking medical care are treated.

The same one with a long backlog of claims for government benefits. The same one in which a new facility in Denver is more than $1 billion over budget.

Executives managing that project received bonuses of from $4,000 to $8,000.

Bonuses of $1,000 to $4,000 went to managers overseeing a program in which opiates were over-prescribed to veterans – one of whom died.

, despite being deemed by investigators the worst such office in the country.

Many VA?employees and officials are good, caring people dedicated to helping veterans.

One wonders how many of them were bypassed for bonuses by a clearly dysfunctional agency.
