On this Memorial Day, the sacrifices mean more than ever
From its battle for independence to the worldwide conflicts of today, the United States of America has had military personnel willing to risk – and lose – lives for the countless causes of freedom.
On this Memorial Day, their sacrifices should be more clearly in focus than ever, as we mark this observance against a backdrop of worldwide unrest.
It seems no week goes by without an unspeakable act of terror, with the latest horror at a concert in England seven days ago.
When that is not happening, a rogue leader in North Korea is testing nuclear weapons and bragging of future use of them to inflict carnage on America and other nations.
Or there is a soulless dictator in Syria gassing his own people.
And there are daily, deadly battles in Afghanistan and other hotspots of the Middle East as terrorists and others seek to do nothing more than create chaos and anarchy in countries badly in need of government and societal structure and order.
In a world on fire, there are only two ways to tamp down the madness.
All the people of the worldwide community must regain their souls. But political and religious divisions are so great in some parts of the world that freedom and political peace are up against the creeds of extreme derangement and illogical violence.
Someone has to fight to bring peace and freedom out of this chaos, both within our borders and around the world.
Our hope lies in history. Our history shows a pedigree of selfless people willing to lay their lives on the line for the causes of righteousness, peace, freedom and independence.
Today, we bow in honor of those who have been making the ultimate sacrifice for almost two and a half centuries.
And we are thankful that the same soul rests in millions of true believers today.
Please take time today to honor those who have sacrificed everything for our freedom and the freedom of millions of other people worldwide.
