Another pedestrian tragedy underscores Route 220 danger
For the fifth time in just over a year, a pedestrian was struck and killed last week while on a four-lane stretch of Route 220 in the Linden area.
The circumstances of the accident are somewhat unclear.
But the bottom line is that four pedestrian deaths on the same portion of highway in about one year underscore the danger of that area to both pedestrians and drivers. The state needs to continue to do everything in its power to make that stretch of road safer.
And drivers need to be acutely aware at all times of other motorists and pedestrians in that area.
Not everything about a tragedy can be controlled, but those are the things that can be.
