Lycoming College’s new entrance, city progress take shape

Seeing is believing.

Ground is being turned at the southern extreme boundary to Lycoming College, where a new entrance to the school will emerge a year from now.

The Krapf Gateway Center will house the school’s Center for Enhanced Academic Experiences and will establish a new face that will be the first thing people see when they approach Lycoming College.

And they will approach the school through East Third Street, Franklin Street and Basin Street, all augmented with infrastructure and streetscape improvements.

The best comparison we can make is the changes several years ago when the entrance to UPMC/Susquehanna Health was switched from the north to the south side and major street, landscape and traffic changes were made.

Lycoming’s changes are part of the $25 million East Third Street/Old City Gateway Revitalization project that will connect the school, business community and eastern commercial district of Williamsport like never before.

It’s cause for an exciting outlook for the future of the school and the city.
