Brotherhood threesome has extended their gifts to benefit community

At a time when our country is deeply divided and seemingly coming apart at the seams, last week’s Lycoming County Brotherhood Alliance awards dinner reminded us of what we can – and should – be.

The honorees were Rev. Spencer Sweeting, pastor of City Alliance Church, local attorney Fred Holland and longtime teacher and Lycoming College football defensive coordinator Steve Wiser.

They had something in common.

Each of them has taken the particular gift and professional station that life has handed them and extended that beyond normal boundaries to make our community better.

They have taught, counseled, preached, and championed causes that reach across the entire social, economic and educational spectrum of our community.

Our community is blessed and enriched to have them to remind us we can do better than much of what we see around us today on matters over which we have control: Our treatment of each other, regardless of differences or individual beliefs.
