Collateral Damage

To those who have read my letters before, you know that I am a patriot. If you don’t know what that means, or that term offends you, good. I love my country and will support it with all my means. You may not like what I’m about to write.

With the bombing in Boston, we see and feel the outrage of innocents being needlessly killed. But, when we launch drone strikes, are we killing only terrorists? It’s not hard to believe that these men have families, too. When we fire two or three Hellfire missiles, the Romeo series at $90,000 per missile, at a house are we so sure that families are not in there too? We lost three innocent civilians and wounded about one-hundred and seventy.

Can we even contemplate the number of innocent women and children we have destroyed?

But, of course, if our Spec/Ops tries to capture a terrorist and the terrorist resists, well our fine soldiers can look to a court martial for hurting the poor terrorist.

How can we lament our “tragedy” when we also visit death and destruction on houses in Afghanistan and Pakistan with women and children in them?

They hate us more than we hate them and, maybe, rightly so.
