We need to do more
May is Osteoporosis Prevention Month. Osteoporosis is a condition which bones are weakened and increase in fractures. Risk Factors are lack of exercise, lack of calcium and Vitamin D, history of fractures as an adult, cigarette smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, history of rheumatoid arthritis, low body weight, and family history of osteoporosis.
There are no signs or symptoms until bone fractures occur. Affects more women than men because when women have their cycles they are losing important minerals and vitamins. Children and some adults are drinking soda and energy drinks instead of a glass of milk.
Osteoporosis affects 10 million people. There are more than 34 million people who have low bone mass.
