Living with a disability

I am very disappointed to read the article about Andrew, the young man with Angelmans Syndrome. After reading the article I looked up this syndrome on the Mayo Clinic web site. Individuals with this disorder live a normal lifespan. To say that “Andrew will likely never go to prom, he is unlikely to ever graduate” is ridiculous.

Students with disabilities are included in these rites of passage activities and their parents cry tears of joy when it happens. Don’t limit your expectations because of a diagnosis. These kids make us smile and surprise us on a daily basis. Include them because they are people too.
