Mental health ignored

In the latest news, we hear of another killer who had mental issues that went unreported. Neither the military or doctors could forewarn others due to the HIPPA law. Are the President and Congress afraid to pass an amendment to the law to protect patients and citizens?

What is the HIPPA Law? It protects individuals’ medical records and other personal health information. The law sets limits and conditions on the uses and disclosures that may be made of such information without patient authorization. Do we really believe that a patient wants a business, government or any other entity to hear about a person’s downside?

Our government has ignored mental health issues. The government and the president must add an amendment to the HIPPA law. It should include the following: “Whenever a person has mental issues and is seeing a doctor and that doctor is aware that the patient is unstable, notifications should be issued to all who are involved with the person”.

I realize that most of us fear the invasion of our privacy, but to remain safe we must have laws that will do this. We need to figure out how to do this without losing our Constitutional rights.

I have no problems with anybody invading my privacy, except those who wish to do bodily harm to me, of course.
