Fight crime silently

I submitted a letter last week trying to dispel the myth that Williamsport was a “city under siege” of crime. Some of the criticism I heard about it was warranted. The truth is that I have gotten into the habit of defending the safety of Williamsport to my father in Mount Carmel. He sees the news reports and worries for my safety. I did some research and learned that Williamsport is actually below the state and national averages for violent crime. However, property crime is abnormally high. I personally want people to feel safe in this city. I have met many wonderful and inspirational people here. Let’s count our blessings. Also, I believe politicians should silently fight crime rather than be so vocal about it. Perhaps people can learn to “agree to disagree” with me.
