Mummer’s Parade article

This letter is in reference to the article in the Sun-Gazette about the annual South Williamsport Mummer’s Parade. While it is great this parade continues, the statements made by the new president are very disconcerting. He implies that the new group is so much better than previous members. He states that they revamped everything to make the parade run so much more smoothly than in the past.

My family and I have been involved in the Mummer’s Parade for 50 years by being spectators, participants and members of the South Williamsport Mummer’s Assn. We have never stated or heard anyone claim to be better than the rest, especially by having it printed in the local newspaper. The new president only being in the organization for 2 years apparently doesn’t know of all the changes and extreme work that has been done in the past 67 years to keep this parade marching on.

This parade is about the spectators and parade entries. It’s about the past and the future. It’s about tradition. It should not be focused on the members of the South Williamsport Mummer’s Assoc. or the judges.
