About the microfilm
So it is discovered that the county mortgage microfilm is unreadable. It has been that way since it was made as also happened for the deed book microfilms.
They also never were readable. The deed books remained at the court house and are used for early deeds as I did back in the 1960s-70s.
Why the mortgage books were transferred to the historical society I do not know, unless it was felt they would never be needed.
Microfilming pictures in articles back then also is a lost cause for good reproduction, but digital has corrected that weakness.
