Putting hate first

More than 73,000 Pennsylvanians lost their unemployment benefits on Dec. 28, when the republicans in congress refused to extend the federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation program, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. Almost 93,000 more Pennsylvanians will lose their coverage in the next six months if the republicans continue to block an extension of the program, according to the Department of Labor.

According to the Congressional Ways and Means Committee, 840 of those Pennsylvanians live in Lycoming county.

The republicans refusal to extend federal unemployment insurance will also hurt job growth throughout the nation. The White House Council of Economic Advisers estimates the republicans will cost the nation about 240,000 jobs. Pennsylvania’s share of that quarter million will be more than 15,000 jobs.

I understand the Republicans want to do everything they can to discredit the Obama administration. The rest of us will have to suffer along with President Obama as long as the Republicans continue to put their hatred of the president ahead of the good of the nation.
