Change of heart needed
I am concerned that my previous letter on history repeating itself has evolved into a debate on gun control. It has nothing to do with gun control, but heart control. Unless the hearts of people are changed by the power of the cross of Jesus, nothing is truly changed. If a person does not have a gun, they may use a knife. If not knives, then clubs. If not clubs, then stones. If not stones, then they will use their bare hands.
Serial killers often don’t use guns. On a larger scale, the Nazis gassed 6 million. Mao Tse-Tung of China and Joseph Stalin of Russia intentionally killed tens of millions of their own people. Millions of those were killed by cruel intentional starvation and other ways. In nations of Africa, thousands were hacked to death with instruments like machetes in their modern tribal warfare. The 9/11 hijackers used box cutters on the airplanes. The list could go on.
Jesus said in Mark 7:21-23, “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
Without a change of heart by the power of God, we will see history repeat itself. It is already happening.
