“There’s No Need to End Saturday Mail Delivery” says Senator Bernie Sanders in the Wall Street Journal of March 5, 2014. He explains.
“Congress in 2006 passed legislation that required the Postal Service to prefund, over a 10-year period, 75 years of future retiree health benefits. This onerous and unprecedented burden – $5.5 billion a year – is responsible for all of the financial losses posted by the Postal Service since October 2012.”
Fulfilling benefit obligations is essential, but surely some modification of this extremely long period could be made by Congress.
Please urge your Senators Casey and Toomey and Representative Marino to preserve the benefit but for a shorter time. Perhaps then we might get back top our sorting center and earlier mail delivery.
