We need Kennedy’s vision

I am not sure President Kennedy would have made it through the presidential caucuses, no less even have been elected president today with what he said in his inaugural address, “my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you–ask what you can do for your country.”

It was not that he was wrong, for that vision took us to the moon and we saw other great advances as a nation. Our nation has changed where we would rather hear our politicians tell us, “Ask not what you can do for your country, but ask what your country can do for you.” The very heart of far too many people in our nation has radically changed 180 degrees.

However, let me take this one step further for Christians. In similar ways, we have become like our nation.

Though I have several reservations about Rick Warren’s book “The Purpose Driven Life”, I fully agree on how he starts his book. “It’s not about you. The purpose of your like is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness. If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose.”

Our nation must once again return to the vision of President Kennedy’s words. However, far more important is that we return to God and obey His Word, the Bible.
