Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story noted, “One of the ordinary modes, by which tyrants accomplish their purposes without resistance, is by disarming the people, and making it an “offense” to keep arms.” Lord Acton understood, “power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely,” and so did Hitler, Mussolini, Castro, Stalin, Mao, and other dictators, who outlawed guns and religion before murdering millions of unarmed citizens during the 20th century. The following Patriotic leaders have never demeaned millions of citizens for believing in God, their Second Amendment, and Bill of Rights, by insinuating they were unacceptable, irredeemable, un-American and a dangerous to society. Former Democratic V.P. Hubert Humphrey wrote, “One of the chief guarantees of freedom under any Government is the right of the citizens to keep and bear arms for it is just one more safeguard against a tyranny which now appears remote in America, but which historically has proved to be always possible.” John Kennedy, while a presidential candidate, remarked, “It is unlikely the fears of Government tyranny which gave rise to the Second Amendment will ever be a major danger to our nation, however, the Second amendment remains an important declaration of our basic “military-civilian” defense of our country, and I always believe it will be important.” President Ronald Reagan learned from personal experience that gun control laws have never stopped psychopaths from harming individuals and cautioned, “They are those in America today who have come to depend absolutely on Government for their security. and when Government fails they seek to rectify that failure in the form of granting Government more power. So as Government has failed to control crime and violence with the means given it by the Constitution, they seek to give it more power at the expense of the Constitution. But in doing so, in their willingness to give up their arms in the name of safety, they are really giving up their protection from what has always been the chief source of despotism-Government.”
