Important issue left out

In a recent letter entitled “A Christian Response”, a group suggested what might be a Christian’s response to complex social issues confronting the world (protection of the environment, public education, immigration, and religious tolerance). An attempt was made to support their political agenda based on their interpretation of the Bible. They felt compelled to speak their truth based on “human reason, science, and expertise in fields of study.”

While their reasoning may be a bit faulty, I know many of these people and am sure their intentions are honest and good. They close with the affirmation that we are all created, redeemed, and sustained by One God.

I noticed, however, that this group failed to mention what many consider the single most important and controversial social issue of our times – abortion! I’m sure that in their study of the Bible, they know that Christians and Jews are told that they “shall not kill.” They would also know that Godly commandment trumps a woman’s “right to choose” to kill her unborn child who, too, is created by One God. I wonder why they left that out of their letter.
