Always a player

For all of his adult life, Donald Trump has been a player. Cutting corners, bending and breaking rules, have been his stock in trade.

As president, however, his role is one of referee. Commissioner might be an even better description.

Unfortunately, Trump sees the Presidency as a tool he can use to stroke his ego and increase his personal wealth. This abdication of his responsibilities has had significant repercussions for the US.

For example: His self-centeredness is creating chaos among our global allies and opportunities for mischief for those who wish us ill. Domestically, his need to promote himself has resulted in an inability to lead his party to achieve any significant legislative success.

In short, Trump refuses to discharge the responsibilities of his office because these responsibilities keep him from feeding his insatiable ego.
