It’s who we are

Liberals are (fill in the blank). Conservatives are (fill in the blank). Let’s cut to the chase and state for the record, that Americans of all persuasions love their country, shall we? It’s not a contest, folks; it’s the nation we live in. Over the course of my lifetime I have seen Conservatives push ideas that I could support, and the same goes for Liberals. Likewise, I have been disappointed by positions taken on both ends of the political spectrum. The distinctive feature of American politics is and has been that we are encouraged to think about what we want from the government and are free to speak our minds about those things.

Healthy competition in what has been called “the marketplace of free ideas” has led the American experiment in self-government to become the greatest nation the world has ever known.
