Centralized government is the only way

A return to decentralized government and less regulation is very appealing. Those of us of a certain age, fondly remember when times were simpler. Unfortunately, increased mobility and higher standards of modern living that make such a return unwise and impractical.

For example, people rarely spend their lives in one state. And with this increased mobility comes an expectation of consistency and standardization across the country. Government, with its attending regulations, is the only entity in our country able to do this.

Also, people today have higher standards regarding what they expect from living in this country. No one wants a return to those “golden days of yesteryear” when you had to saddle up and ride into town to get a doctor in an emergency. Today, we take it for granted that government regulated and/or mandated agencies allow us to call for an ambulance and have a hospital waiting at the other end of the ride. The same goes for the power grid, highways, consumer protections, public safety, etc.

In short, a centralized government is the only practical way to govern any advanced country.
