Wrong emphasis

In the letter entitled “The Gun Landscape”, the author wrote “When a mass killer is non-white and uses a truck, President Trump tweets that person must be executed. When mass killers are white males armed with semi-automatic weapons that guarantee multiple casualties (Las Vegas; Sutherland Springs, Texas), Trump proclaims it is too soon to think about new gun regulations. He says it’s not a gun problem; it’s a mental health problem.”

The point that the author missed, even in her own letter, was that the president didn’t talk about banning the truck. He talked about the person who used it.

We don’t attempt to reduce drunk driving by revoking a sober driver’s driving privileges, but that is the tactic that is proposed by every gun control advocate.
