It’s working

In 2016, after careful deliberation in seeking affiliation with a larger health care system, Susquehanna Health found its perfect partner in UPMC. More than a year into our affiliation with the Pittsburgh-based health care leader, UPMC Susquehanna and its communities are experiencing new benefits, services, and providers locally.

As UPMC Susquehanna’s chief medical officer, I have seen our physicians excel under the UPMC affiliation. Our shared values of clinical excellence, compassion, and patient-centered care have made this affiliation a natural transition. We have an open medical staff model that supports independent healthcare providers, encourages coordinated care, and preserves patient choice. We truly value the collaboration between independent and staff physicians and the positive impact it has on care delivery.

UPMC made a $500 million commitment to advance care here in Central Pennsylvania, and UPMC delivers on its commitments.

In 2017, UPMC Susquehanna hired many new specialists to advance specialty services and cancer care regionally and we welcomed Lock Haven and Sunbury hospitals into our family. In January we opened our Neurosciences Center and continue our journey toward Level II trauma designation, so our patients can receive care close to home.

When UPMC brings a community hospital into its network, it adopts the community as well, bringing credibility to its promises and elevating medicine in the entire region. UPMC is playing a key role in recruiting top talent to our area, advancing access, and improving techniques.

We’re ensuring our communities have access to the latest treatments, most innovative tools, and the best physicians and providers.

As a health system and a community, we know we’re better together.
