The problem with gun debates

The recent Florida school shooting has led to large scale debates on gun control. The problem with that is the “debates” are largely expressions of rage and emotion by high school students who are considered authentic because it happened to fellow students.

Placing the emphasis on gun control takes the spotlight away from the very real problems of follow up by legal and school authorities when they were given significant warnings this individual was a real danger.

Banning guns won’t have any effect if existing controls aren’t adequately executed. If banning inanimate objects was effective, we’d have solved a lot of problems that kill people, such as illegal drugs.
